தமிழ் மொழி பண்டைய மொழிகளில் ஒன்றாகும், இது தமிழ்நாடு, புதுச்சேரி, இலங்கை, சிங்கப்பூர் மற்றும் மலேசியாவில் அதிகாரப்பூர்வமான மொழி. இன்று தமிழ் மொழி பேசாத இடம் இல்லை, தமிழர் இல்லாத இடம் இல்லை என்றே கூறலாம்.

நியூ இங்கிலாந்து தமிழ்ச் சங்கம் (நெட்ஸ்) 1970 களில் நியூ இங்கிலாந்து பகுதியில் தொடங்கிய முதல் தமிழ்ச் சங்கம் ஆகும். பழமை வாய்ந்த எங்கள் தமிழ்ச் சங்கம் - மாசசூசெட்ஸ் (பாஸ்டன்), நியூ ஹாம்ப்ஷையர், ரோடு ஐலண்ட், கனெக்டிகட், மெயின், வெர்மான்ட் மாநிலங்களுக்கு சேவை செய்வது எங்கள் நெட்ஸின் பெருமையாகும். கடந்த 50 ஆண்டுகளாக தமிழ் மொழி மற்றும் கலாச்சாரத்தை மேம்படுத்துவதில் கவனம் செலுத்தி வருகிறது. எங்கள் அமைப்பு ஆயிரக்கணக்கான மைல்களுக்கு அப்பால் இருந்து பண்டைய கலாச்சாரத்தை கொண்டு வருவதற்கு முக்கியத்துவம் கொண்ட ஒரு இலாப நோக்கற்ற அமைப்பாகும்.

நாங்கள் ஒரு வருடத்தில் நான்கு நிகழ்வுகளை நிகழ்த்துகிறோம், வாய்ப்பு அதிகரிக்கும்போது நாங்கள் நான்குக்கும் மேற்பட்டதைச் செய்கிறோம். பொங்கல் விழா, சித்திரை விழா, வருடாந்திர கோடை சுற்றுலா மற்றும் குழந்தைகள் விழா கொண்டாடுகிறோம்.பல்வேறு தமிழ் அறிஞர்களின் கற்றல் அமர்வுகள் மற்றும் உரைகளை நாங்கள் நடத்துகிறோம்.

ஒவ்வொரு சங்கத்தின் வளர்ச்சிக்கு காரணமாக இருப்பது தாங்கள் செலுத்தும் வருடாந்திர சந்தா என்று அழைக்கப்படும் உறுப்பினர் கட்டணம் தான். இதன் மூலமாக தான், நாங்கள் ஒவ்வொரு நிகழ்ச்சியையும் செம்மையாக நடத்துகிறோம். உங்களின் இந்த சேவை வருடா வருடம் எங்களுக்கு கிடைப்பதால் தான் நிகழ்ச்சிக்கான அரங்கச் செலவுகள், ஒலி மற்றும் ஒளி அனைத்தும் ஏற்பாடு செய்ய முடிகிறது.

இதற்குப் பிரதிபலனாக உறுப்பினர்களுக்கும், அவர்களின் குடும்ப அங்கத்தினர்களுக்கும் நெட்ஸின் பெரும்பாலான நிகழ்ச்சிகளுக்கு இலவச அனுமதியை வழங்குகிறோம்.

Tamil language is one of the ancient languages and it is spoken in Tamil Nadu (a state in southern India), Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia. There are tamil speaking people who are settled all over the globe.

New England Tamil Sangam (NETS) has been focusing on promoting Tamil language and Culture since 1970's. Our organization is a Non-profit organization with emphasis on bringing the ancient culture from thousands of miles away.

Our organization serves the new england area in United States of America, covering states of Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts,Rhode Island and Vermont.

Our charter includes activities to help promote:
  • Tamil language and culture
  • Organize events like Movie, Music, Dance and Drama
  • Encourage local talents in and around New England area

History

New England Tamil Sangam (NETS) provides a full range of Tamil Cultural activities and Community Service to the New England region. The members of the NETS are the residents of New England region and have interest in Tamil cultural and social events.

Founded as a Sangam about 35 years ago, NETS is a non-profit organization with the sole interest of bringing in quality Tamil cultural programs to our community living in New England region. NETS, as of today, has more than 1500 members and is expected to grow further in the coming years.

Our sangam provides means and mechanisms for many talent displays. It also provides as a great place to have some social contacts. We help our members build new friendships and foster our unity. To help facilitate these, we organize lot of Social Events.

We do four events in a year and when opportunity rises we do more than four. We celebrate Pongal Vizhaa, Chithirai Vizhaa, Annual Summer Picnic & Children's Vizhaa. We do conduct Learning Sessions and Speeches by various Tamil Scholars.

As we are a non-profit organization, we cannot run an organization without active contributions from many individuals and organizations. Contributions from our members can be logically split into two (1) Physical and (2) Monetary. While we had many volunteers for physical work, and we also get the financial support from our local community Sponsors. Thanks to all our Sponsors. We appreciate their help whole-heartedly.

NETS is so proud to be the main back bone of Harvard Tamil Chair in New England Region. Our goal is to bring the Tamil Chair at Harvard University. Please contribute to make this happen earlier.
